When it comes to hacking, ethics play a huge role in the field of ethical hacking.
An ethical hacker is one who abides by a set of rules established by the industry.
You can't, for instance, utilise the company's resources for your own gain or misappropriate its data for evil. It is also important to ensure that the information is secure and does not come into the wrong hands as a consequence of the testing. There might be legal repercussions for any unauthorised use of their data or information.
Permissions are also an important part of ethical hacking. To hack a server hosting a web application, for instance, you would need to be granted access to that server. Hacking, as opposed to ethical hacking, occurs when one gains access to a system without authorisation.
Please take note that the Code of Ethics may be found at https://www.eccouncil.org/code-of-ethics/. You may lose your CEH credential if you don't follow the ethical guidelines set out by EC-Council.
